Know the right type, right away

Make accurate, differential diabetes diagnoses sooner

Because treatment can differ greatly among diabetes types—beyond type 1 and type 2—making the correct diagnosis early on is crucial.

Go deeper with the right diagnostic tools

Our tests identify diabetes types that are often difficult to diagnose and that respond to different types of treatment:

  • Type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents—this is increasingly prevalent due to the rising rate of obesity in young people, necessitating a more cautious approach to diagnosing diabetes in this age group1
     
  • Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA)—a type of adult-onset diabetes that does not require insulin initially but can progress to insulin dependency without proper management2
     
  • Monogenic diabetes—this type is often misdiagnosed as type 1 or type 2, and our genetic tests can help you get the correct diagnosis so you can provide appropriate treatment3

Rely on comprehensive testing for monogenic diabetes

Monogenic diabetes affects up to 5% of pediatric patients, and testing for it prevents misdiagnosis, suboptimal treatment, and delays in diagnosing other family members.3,4 Monogenic diabetes has also been identified in adults in their 40s and even 50s.

We offer testing for maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), the most common type of monogenic diabetes, as well as neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM), a rarer form.3 Many pediatric patients with MODY are mistakenly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, whereas older patients with MODY (in their 20s and 30s) are often thought to have type 2 diabetes.4 Our MODY DNA sequencing testing helps you take the doubt out of your diagnosis, so you can identify MODY and get patients on the appropriate treatment path.

In addition to being the only major commercial lab that offers genetic testing for MODY, we offer:

  • Comprehensive insulin autoantibody testing for type 1 diabetes and LADA
  • Insulin production status, using tests for insulin, C-peptide, and proinsulin, including LC/MS/MS assays, which are more precise and reliable than immunoassays5
